La Pa Past
La Paz, the capital of Southern Baja, was founded in the
early 16th century, by the legendary Spanish explorer
Hernan Cortes. He named the beautiful city La Paz
(the Peace) after the peaceful nature of its inhabitants.
La Paz was particularly attractive to the Spanish
explorers due to being located on a great protected bay,
a well protected harbor, and favorable weather.

The old world charm of La Paz is still evident in
the beautiful colonial architecture, and is without doubt
one of the most beautiful cities of Mexico's northwest region.
